In individual therapy, I work to provide a safe space where you can express your thoughts and feelings. It is often helpful to talk about these things with a therapist who is not involved with your life in a way that your loved ones or colleagues are. Through this process, you can unload things that have been on your mind, obtain new perspectives about yourself or situations, feel more in charge of your life, or simply feel better.
In Couple therapy, I work to provide a safe space where couples can express their thoughts and feelings to each other and hear the other in a non-defensive manner. In relationships, we may sometimes get stuck into patterns that hinder us from relating to our partner in a loving and satisfying manner. Couple therapy can be a great way to explore and understand what happens between the two partners so that you can learn to communicate effectively with each other even during disagreements.
I work from a relational approach, which is to believe that the therapeutic relationship reflects on how you engage with people outside of the therapy room. I also take multicultural perspectives in treatment, meaning that I try to understand how we think, feel, and behave based on our cultural and societal contexts. Furthermore, I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) when I work with people with trauma.
